TACA holds monthly meetings in many locations throughout the United States that feature educational speakers on important topics and allow family members to connect with one another and stay on top of the latest information in the autism world. Each TACA group maintains a resource library of the latest autism books and tapes that can be checked out by members at no charge.

Our Washington team offers monthly meetings at Bates Technical College (South Campus) in Tacoma providing support opportunities for families throughout the Puget Sound community. Meeting times are updated regularly - check back for updates.

Special Needs Law as it relates to Autism Spectrum Disorder

We will be hearing from representatives from Cassady Law, a firm specializing in disability law, including special needs trusts, guardianship, and special education.

Intro to Relationship Development Intervention

Carrie Sheppard, an RDI Program Certified Consultant and State of Washington Child Mental Health Specialist, provides an overview of RDI - a parent-based clinical treatment program where parents are provided the tools to effectively teach Dynamic Intelligence skills and motivation to their child

March 21 Dr. James Woods, PhD, University of Washington

Toxicology, Environmental Health, Exposure Sciences, and Occupational Medicine

Dr. Woods will discuss the relationship between human health and the environment including his current study comparing heavy metal body burden levels of children with autism versus typically developing children of the same age; if a difference is detected, it could serve to help in the early diagnosis of autism and to suggest additional treatment strategies.

Chelation Considerations

A discussion of when, how, and why you may consider chelation for your child. I will discuss when you would consider chelation, the safety concerns, the various methods of chelation, and what to expect while your child is going through chelation. Expect to have a better overall understanding of where chelation falls in the spectrum of treatments for your child.
